Project type Interactive kiosk, TimeScope, thematic routes Partners City council Oudenaarde Background Oudenaarde is the most important city in the region of the “Flemish Ardennes” in the south of the Province of East-Flanders. Due to its rich cultural heritage, the city is also an important tourist centre. The purpose of installing a TimeScope window in the city hall – which is itself recognized as ‘world heritage’ – is to promote local tourism by way of: - providing a better service for the visitor of the tourist information desk
- providing background information about the major cultural and tourist sites of the city in an accessible way
- providing information about local tourist tours to which the historical background information is linked in a convenient way
- building a local network of IT enriched sites
| Technology Through the use of the information kiosk, visitors can browse through the history of the city, locate protected green areas, examine examples from the municipal art collection, or learn why Oudenaarde is rightly to be called a beer city. These various themes are linked with a suggested tourist routes in and around the city, highlighting both the main tourist sites and other places that are sometimes overlooked by visitors to the city and inhabitants alike |
