An Introduction for Cultural Heritage Technologists to the General Field of Heritage, Its Structure and Practice in Europe Today 13-19 March 2005 In furtherance of its goal of European-wide integration of cultural heritage technologies, the EPOCH Network devotes significant attention to the education and training of young researchers and the enhancement of their mobility. With the support of the EPOCH network, the Ename Center organised a heritage course for advanced and graduate level students in cultural heritage technology that offered an introduction and basic background on the structure of European heritage institutions and the formulation of heritage policy. Participants from Finland, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and Romania gained familiarity with the major cultural units of the European Commission as well as heritage organisations on local, regional, national and international levels. The purpose of this course was to provide a deeper understanding of, and context for the work of cultural technologists within current European cultural heritage administration and policy. These various facets of the heritage world were explained on the basis of presentations, seminar discussions, and visits to heritage sites throughout Belgium. | | | | |
