Community Context:

Ronse is a small town with a complex community at the borders of Flanders and Wallonia. The city has some very specific characteristics which make the creation of a heritage zone advisable.

Historical background:

The area in the center of the city is a district which used to have its own jurisdiction and which is still topographically preserved. It contains all the elements of the rich cultural and societal history of Ronse. This history with, amongst other elements, the cult of Saint Hermes and the textile industry has put its distinctive mark on the identity of Ronse and its inhabitants. Two museums and a tourist information desk are situated in the same area as well.

Interpretive Concept

The Ename Center will work together with the City Museums of Ronse, the ‘Kerkfabriek’ and others in order to develop a total concept for constructing an interpretation centre as well as an interpretation zone.  Innovative techniques will involve the visitor to the maximum in the presentation of the cultural heritage of Ronse. Our goal is to make Ronse’s heritage accessible and understandable to the inhabitants of the city as well as to the visitors.
